Describe the pathway by which filtered substances leave the body.
The kidneys' collecting tubules collect the filtrate, called urine, from distal convoluted tubules of the nephrons and channel it into the pelvis of the kidney. From each kidney the urine is carried by a duct called the ureter to the urinary bladder which stores urine until it is emptied to the exterior via another duct called the urethra.
